Prayers to remember women and girls impacted by Domestic Violence

Prayers to remember women and girls impacted by Domestic Violence

Please use these prayers with your community, at church, or in your small groups to support

efforts to end domestic violence.

Dear God,

We come into your presence and thank you for each moment and breath you have given us.

We thank you for families where we can be nurtured and loved.

We are conscious that many people have their joy and security robbed because they

experience abuse and violence from people who should be providing security and support.

We especially pray for women who are facing abuse and its dreadful consequences.

Be with each one and restore hope, we pray.

We thank you for all who are making every effort to save your daughters.

Give them strength and wisdom to deal with trauma and to transform lives.

Help them to keep going even when their hearts are troubled.

As we seek to be more aware of this issue, bless our efforts.

Help us to put faith into action through love as this is what your Word teaches us.

We ask this all in your Precious and Mighty Name, Jesus.

Amen!

Holy God,

We thank you that you rule with righteousness and justice. We rejoice that you came in the

person of Jesus to destroy the works of darkness.

We acknowledge that our hearts hurt at the pervasive levels of violence against women and

girls. We do not know how long it will continue but we mourn with hope that you will judge

every offender who does not repent and that you will

provide courage and hope for every survivor.

We pray for the perpetrators of every form of violence against women and children.

We ask that they will hear what your Spirit says and turn to you in humble repentance.

We lay our hands on the hearts, souls, and minds of the affected children.

We declare your power to save, heal, and deliver them.

We thank you for how you will continue to glorify yourself

as we look to you, wait on you, and work with you - in the

name of Our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth - Amen!

Lord, you came to bind up the broken-hearted and to set the captives free.

Your mandate has become our mandate, and so as the global Church praying together in

unity today we stand against domestic abuse in all its forms.

We pray for all those suffering at the hands of others.

Be their strong tower, their comfort, their refuge and their hope.

We pray for all those involved in supporting survivors, that

you would strengthen and encourage them - giving them wisdom and compassion as they

show Christ’s love in these darkest of situations.

May we, your church, rise up and be a voice for the voiceless.

May we have the courage to stand up and be counted -

challenging a culture of cover-up and silence in our midst.

Finally, help us to create safe spaces where survivors are listened to, believed, and loved.

We ask all these things in the beautiful and powerful name of Jesus.

Amen.

Group Prayer Suggestion

You could use an Examen prayer at the end of the service to reflect on all that has been shared and taught. Take 30 seconds for silent reflection for each point.

1. Become aware of God’s presence – God is our Jehovah nissi – our banner of protection and strength.

2. Review the day with gratitude – Thank God for His provision for us – for safety, our families, our friends.

3. Pay attention to your emotions – How does this message about domestic abuse make you feel? Grateful for God? Guilty/sad, helpless?

4. Choose one feature of what we have heard today and talk to God about it

5. Look toward tomorrow – with renewed hope and commitment to follow God’s pattern of justice, mercy, and kindness.
